Mother rams kidnapper's car; police seek suspect

By Officer Tasia Martinez

Albuquerque Police are continuing an extensive search today for a man suspected in a child kidnapping incident that took place Wednesday evening.

David Jesus Hernandez, 31, is wanted for questioning in the incident.  Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Hernandez.

The kidnapping occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the victim’s apartment complex in the 1700 block of Indian School NW.  The four-year-old girl was playing in her yard when witnesses say that a man in a silver Buick forced the girl into his vehicle .  A group of teenagers in the apartment complex saw the kidnapping and ran into the victim’s home to tell the mother that her child had just been taken.  Family called 911 and the mother ran to her vehicle and gave chase to the suspect who was driving the Buick.  The mother rammed the Buick at one point in an attempt to save her child, whom she still believed to be inside of the vehicle.  The suspect crashed his car and fled on foot.  It was later learned that the suspect pushed the child out of his vehicle within the apartment complex before fleeing from the scene.  The child was found unharmed wandering near the abduction site.

Albuquerque Police field services officers and detectives immediately set up a large perimeter around the location and scoured the area for the suspect. New Mexico State Police Officers heard the call and responded to assist with the search.  The man was not located.  After preliminary investigation, detectives were able to determine David Hernandez to be a person of interest.

Detectives are also investigating a possible connection to an incident that happened last week at the same apartment complex, involving a 6-year-old female who was reportedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted.  The suspect in that incident was described as a male in a silver or gray vehicle.  The investigations into both incidents are ongoing and have not been confirmed to be connected to the same individual at this time.

Detectives are asking that anyone with any information about this crime or any information regarding the whereabouts of  David Jesus Hernandez, (depicted in photo) please contact police directly or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 843-STOP.
